Elections in the Middle East
Using expert surveys, exit polling, and original data submissions from researchers, MEPE will build a region-wide election map that spans both democracies and electoral autocracies. Researchers will be able to interact with these data on electoral outcomes all the way down to the district level. Visitors will also have various options to toggle their view of electoral outcomes by party positioning, ideology, and policy issues for parties in over 25 states across the region. Positioning will distribute & identify parties by: important questions facing the region in a given era, from federal union in the immediate postwar era to post-9/11 cooperation with Washington in the war on terror; general left/right, economic left/right, and social left/right; concerns of particular questions, such as Turkey's accession to the European Union or Iran's nuclear program; as well as questions not specific to the region or any particular country, such as immigration, wealth & land redistribution, decentralization, and the environment.
